The Fifth Regional EST Forum in Asia was jointly organized by Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) of the Kingdom of Thailand, Ministry of the Environment, Government of Japan (MOEJ), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) and UNCRD from 23 to 25 August 2010 in Bangkok, Thailand. The Forum was attended by approximately 200 participants, comprising high-level government representatives from twenty-two Asian countries, international experts and resource persons, representatives from various UN and international organizations, and local observers from Thailand. The Fifth Forum participants agreed on Bangkok 2020 Declaration - Sustainable Transport Goals for 2010-2020.

Objectives
- Contribute towards improved understanding and strengthened regional consensus in terms of sustainable policy options, technological and institutional measures that promotes sustainable and low-carbon-transport Address and identify opportunities for collaborative actions and partnerships, including international financial mechanism, on implementing affordable, economically viable, socially acceptable and environmentally sound transport systems in developing countries and countries with economies in transition;
- Facilitate international cooperation for capacity building activities, including wider-scale adoption and proliferation of various EST measures at local and national level
- Enhance regional input to CSD-19 in terms of various policy options and recommendations on transport sector for sustainable development through the adoption of the
Illustrate innovative initiatives, achievements and good practices in public transportation system, rail, BRT system, fuel efficiency, and freight transport

The Fifth Regional EST Forum was attended by approximately 200 participants, including
National Government representatives from Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Transport and other respective agencies from twenty-two Asian countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, P. R. China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Viet Nam);
Representatives from the Ministry of Health also attended with the support of World Health Organization (WHO);
International Experts selected for various EST-related thematic areas;
International Organizations and Research Institutions engaged in the fields related to EST.
