International Forum on Regional Development in the 21st Century “Colombia: A country for regions”
30 Mar 2011 - 31 Mar 2011UNCRD-LAC, in collaboration with the City of Bogotá, the Departamento of Cundinamarca, the Presidential Agency for International Cooperation of Colombia, Foro Semana, and UNDP (among others), implemented the International Forum on Regional Development in the 21st Century “Colombia: A country for regions” aimed at r the exchange of knowledge, experience and lessons learned from practical experiences, between Colombian participants and experts and practitioners from Africa, Europe, North America, and Latin America.
The Forum, conducted in March 2011, brought together approx. 900 participants from governments at national, regional and local levels of all regions of the country, including governors, mayors, ministers and directors of entities related to regional development in Colombia, representatives of international and national organizations, academia, private sector and community, among others.
The event, which also involved relevant experts Latin America, North America, Europe and Asia attained: (1) an enhanced knowledge on theory and practice regarding the concept of ‘Region’, ‘regional development’ and its dynamics at a national and international level, (2) strategic alliances and cooperation agreements promoted among local and regional governments, (3) regional integration processes promoted as a sound mechanism for territorial management, (4) open discussion scenarios regarding regional integration in Colombia, which had a sound impact in the enhancement of policy making at the national level.
Attendance: 900 participants comprising experts from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Germany, Italy, Spain, representatives of Colombian regions, representatives of the academia and practitioners on the theme
