Training module on Regional Development and UNCRD’s regional development mandate and activities
6 Apr 2010 - 7 Apr 2010Responding to the invitation received from the Latin American School for Cooperation and Development to collaborate with the implementation of a training module on Integrated Regional Development which initiated in 2009, UNCRD-LAC implemented the second “Training module on Integrated Regional Development”. The module included the presentation of UNCRD´s mandate on regional development and the Centre’s international cooperation activities and training methodologies.
To illustrate the implementation of practical exercises, the students implemented UNCRD´s methodology for project formulation to develop a proposal of a joint and participatory international cooperation programme in the Latin American region under a human security and regional development approach.
The training session was directed to 27 students of the Specialization of International Cooperation for Development which involved graduate students from eight countries (Italy, Switzerland, Colombia, Bolivia, Argentina, Ecuador, Brasil and Chile)
As a result of this workshop, students were able to: (a) better understand UNCRD’s regional development mandate, its genesis, operational framework, and objectives; (b) discuss the key concepts and aspects underlying the human security and regional development approach; (c) have an overview of the human security situation in the LAC region; and (d) understand the contents of UNCRD´s training methodologies through the development of a practical exercise.
This activity, framed under UNCRD’s South-South Cooperation Programme, enabled UNCRD-LAC to: (a) enhance UNCRD´s visibility of its activities in the region; (b) discuss regional development cooperation activities in the different countries; and (c) consolidate collaborative arrangements between the LA School for Cooperation and Development and UNCRD.
