UNCRD Tokyo Office's support to the High-Level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters - 21 Oct 2019
UNCRD opened its office in Tokyo in August 2019. The Office is hosted by the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies of Japan (GRIPS) and supports the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with a focus on Disaster Risk Reduction and Water. One of the important activities of the Office is to support the Secretariat of the High-Level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP).

The objective of the HELP, which is chaired by Dr. Han Seung-soo, President of the 56th Session of UN General Assembly and Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, is to assist the international community, governments and stakeholders in mobilizing political will and resources to address the issue of water-related disasters. Current flagship initiatives of the HELP include the dissemination of the Principle on Financing and Investing in Water-related Disasters launched in June 2019 and the establishment of the Alliance of Alliances on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Researches led by the Sichuan University of China and the International Centre for Water Hazard International (ICHARM) in Japan.

The HELP holds its meeting twice/year and the 14th meeting will take place in Paris, France in the beginning of November 2019. The UNCRD Tokyo Office is contributing to the preparation of the 14th meeting by supporting the HELP Secretariat. Please visit HELP website for more details of the HELP activities.
