International Training Course in Regional Development (ITC)

The annual International Training Course in Regional Development (ITC) conducted in Japan is UNCRD's flagship training course and represents all the training experiences and know-how that it has accumulated since its establishment in 1971. Through the ITC, UNCRD has trained nearly 1,000 professionals from more than seventy countries in Asia and the Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean. For the ITC, UNCRD usually invites ten government officials engaged in regional development at the central/local levels to provide them with knowledge and know-how on regional development. They are now serving as leaders in promoting sustainable regional development in their respective countries.

Goals and Objectives

The main goal of the ITC is to make a contribution to sustainable regional development through an intensive six-week programme aimed at the capacity development of each participant.

    • Discussed the factors which have led to the creation of modern-day Japan; and
    • Identified and prioritized possible ways to achieve targets considered necessary for their own countries.
  2. To maximize learning potential gained by being conducted in Japan. By the end of the Course, the participants will have:
