Under UNCRD-LAC's South-South Cooperation Programme, and in continuation of the training programme initiated in November 2007, UNCRD-LAC implemented a Second Training Workshop on Participatory Formulation of Projects Human Security and Regional Development for the Central Region of Argentina.
The Central Region of Argentina, comprising the provinces of Córdoba, Santa Fé, and Entre Ríos, has made advancement as an integrated region in the formulation of a Strategic Plan, and requested UNCRD-LAC's support for the design and implementation of a Training Programme that emphases the Human Security approach to strengthen the capacities of public officials and members of civil society in the formulation of programmes and projects. Responding to this request, UNCRD implemented the first workshop in May 2008, in the Province of Córdoba. The main subjects discussed during this workshop were: the components of the Human Security approach; the relevancy of collaborative work; and the identification of priority projects under the Human Security and Regional Development approach.
The successful results of this workshop motivated the board of the directors of the Central Region to request the organizers to develop similar training activities in the other two provinces of the Central Region to give continuity to the programme. In agreement with the board of the directors of the Central Region, the second workshop took place in the Province of Santa Fé following the same objectives and structure as the one implemented in the Province of Córdoba.
