Mechanisms for the Conformation of the City-Region Bogotá-Cundinamarca

Date:28 - 29 August 2003

An international forum on City-Region Bogotá-Cundinamarca was held on 28-29 August 2003 which: (a) discussed the mechanisms or policy instruments that can facilitate or enable the development of interinstitutional projects within the framework of the City-Region Bogotá-Cundinamarca; and (b) learned lessons from relevant national and international practical experiences.

Attended by 450 people ranging from experts from Brazil, Colombia, Japan, Spain, and the US; candidates for the mayor of Bogotá, governors of Cundinamarca, Boyaca, Tolima, and Meta (these last three corresponding to the states contiguous to Cundinamarca) to councilors and deputies, senators of the Republic, public officials representing the institutions of the national, state, district, and environmental management bodies that act in the study area, the forum was also attended by representatives of the provinces of Cundinamarca, the localities of the Capital District of Bogotá, civil society and the private sector.

The deliberations were transmitted by satellite to three selected provinces of Cundinamarca, in which parallel workshops were organized. Around sixty participants attended each of these workshops. Satellite transmission allowed a wider diffusion of the forum presentations and discussions, as well as facilitating and receiving feedback from the provinces.
