International Meeting on Bogota Zero Waste: Towards a Culture of Civilization
29 Feb 2012 - 29 Feb 2012In the context of the IPLA initiative and supported by UNCRD, the Zero Waste policy, launched in January 2012 by the new Bogotá Mayor, is advancing in a sustained way, under the leadership of Agendabogotá (an IPLA member), and the Bogota Zero Waste team, comprised of social organizations, entrepreneurs and academicians (also IPLA members). The new Bogotá administration in giving high priority in its political agenda to Zero Waste, which is an integral part of the City’s Development Plan currently in implementation.
The International Meeting on Bogota Zero Waste: Towards a Culture of Civilization was held in Bogotá, had the objective of strengthening the Bogota Zero Waste Policy and implementation and consolidate a citizen´s proposal facing Rio+20. Bogotá Zero Waste is implemented under the context of the Declaration signed by Agendabogota in Daegu, Republic of Korea, in the Special Event “Moving Towards Zero Waste For Green Economy - Role of Local Authorities developed during the ISWA (International Solid Waste Association) World Congress, in 2011.
The meeting was installed by UNCRD-LAC’s coordinator, the director of the Administrative Unit for Public Services of Bogotá (UAESP), the rector of the District University, and the heads of “Bogotá Basura Cero” (Bogotá Zero Waste organization). It was attended by international and national experts from Germany, Spain, Mexico and Colombia, who referred to their experience in the use of instruments and technologies in waste management processes, and also discussed their experience in the use of waste as a strategy for moving towards Zero Waste.
Participants: 1,120 participants, including public officials of local, regional and national levels, academics, private sector representatives, community leaders and recyclers among others.
