Workshop series (13 events)under the Project on Human Security Assessments as Inputs to the Social Management Plan for the Territorial Recovery of the Area of Influence of the Waste Landfill of the City of Bogotá “Doña Juana”.
5 Aug 2009 - 24 Dec 2009The outcomes of the Human Security Assessment process undertaken in the Bogotá-Cundinamarca Region from 2006 to 2008, generated the interest of the Special Administrative Unit of Public Services of Bogotá (UAESP, Spanish Acronym), which requested technical assistance from UNCRD-LAC to apply the Human Security Assessment methodology in analyzing the conditions of vulnerability in communities affected by the open waste disposal dump of Bogotá (called "Doña Juana"). This analysis which served as a key input to formulating the Social Management Plan of the area, included two types of workshops: (1) for public officials in charge/responsible for the study area; and (2) for community leaders and public in general living in rural and urban communities of the study area.
Assessments were of a participatory nature between the City administration and the communities involved, expects to minimize, mitigate, and compensate the impact generated by the open-dump in nearby communities. The project was launched in a meeting open to community leaders and public-at-large of the affected territories, with the participation of local mayors and public officials of the UAESP.
