The workshop was organized with the objectives to provide an in-depth review on selected issues related to the promotion of 3R in Bangladesh, which include among others:

international experiences on 3R;
municipal solid waste management;
medical waste management;
industrial and hazardous waste management; and
way forward to promote 3R in Bangladesh and the need for National 3R Strategy.

At the opening session, the Honorable Advisors for MoEF and MLGRDC addressed the importance of 3R initiatives. In the first four technical sessions in the workshop, many experts from government, international organizations and NGOs shared their knowledge and experiences on each technical field. Among them, Mr. Kaburagi from UNCRD explained the concept of 3R initiative and the importance of establishment of legal systems for waste management. After the technical sessions, the Bangladeshi participants had an active discussion on the three technical topics (municipal waste, medical waste and industrial / hazardous waste). The points of the discussion were presented in the last session after Mr. C.R.C. Mohanty from UNCRD made a presentation entitled 'National 3R Strategies -- Needs, Concepts and Principles' in order to facilitate the needs for 3R national strategy for Bangladesh.
