IPLA International Dialogue on Solid Waste Management Towards Zero Waste - 27 Mar 2015
UNCRD participated in the IPLA event, International Dialogue on Solid Waste Management Towards Zero Waste, which was co-organized by the Unidad Administrativa Especial de Servicios Públicos of Bogotá (UAESP, Spanish acronym) , who performs the role of Subregional Secretariat of IPLA. The coordinator of UNCRD Environmental Unit spoke at several panels, and UNCRDLAC Office Coordinator spoke at the panel discussion on the increasing role of territorial governments (city and regional) in the implementation of the Post-2015 agenda and the attainment of ODS, and on incorporating solid waste management into integrated regional development planning.

The Dialogue, which was attended by more than 300 participants from several Latin American countries, addressed a number of areas such as policies and programmes to achieve zero waste in the cities, financing waste management and sanitation, waste management strategies during natural disasters and catastrophic events, social inclusion in waste management, technologies and their adaptation, and waste management in the context of climate mitigation and post-2015 development, among others. UNCRD made concerted efforts to promote the idea of implementing necessary policy measures to promote waste management as an economic industry with strong partnerships with private sector and waste entrepreneurs in Latin American region.
