Disaster Management Planning Hyogo Office
Activities
The Hyogo Office is conducting three non-core fund projects as follows: (1) Hyogo Trust Fund for community-based disaster management (CBDM); (2) Trust Fund for Human Security of OCHA for a project of the school earthquake safety initiative (SESI); and (3) fund from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT)-Japan for the housing earthquake safety initiative (HESI). Funds were provided on an annual basis from 1999 to 2010 for CBDM, as a four-year project from 2005 to 2009 for SESI, and as a six-year project from 2006 to 2012 for HESI. An outline of the projects is as shown below. All the projects include activities such as: (a) research, including action research, (b) capacity-building, (c) raising awareness, and (d) knowledge dissemination, at the regional level.
The series of CBDM projects and other projects such as SESI as well as HESI aim to achieve the aforementioned Hyogo Office's goals.
In addition, the core fund is appropriated for : (a) field surveys that are conducted immediately following large-scale disasters; (b) short-term projects such as development of a training module for disaster recovery; and (c) major international large events such as the series of disaster management symposiums in Kobe. From the year 2008, the Hyogo Office has been supporting a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) group training course on safe schools.
