High-level Interactive Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Cooperation for Knowledge and Capacity Development in Waste Management
18 Dec 2014 - 18 Dec 2014
Lagos, Nigeria

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the statutory waste management agency in Lagos State and IPLA Sub-Regional Secretariat for Western Africa will organize a High-level Interactive Forum on "Multi-Stakeholder Cooperation for Knowledge and Capacity Development in Waste Management" on 18 December, 2014. The Forum is supported by the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) and the International Partnership for Expanding Waste Management Services of Local Authorities (IPLA).

The increase in waste generation combined with complex/emerging waste streams arising from the growing industrialization as well as changing consumption patterns, which pose inherent implications for climate change among other environmental issues, have necessitated current global trends in adopting a multi-level collaborative approach to engender empirical knowledge-driven strategy and innovation, as well as empower stakeholders at municipal level towards appropriate technological choice and intervention.

Recognizing the need therefore for guided research / knowledge development and capacity building in achieving the above, LAWMA being the West Africa Secretariat for the UNCRD-IPLA, is organising the interactive multi-stakeholder forum as a viable platform to promote Academia-Industry-Government collaborations towards driving sustainable integrated waste management technologies in the country.
