Following to the First UNCRD Mini-seminar which was held in April, UNCRD held the Second Mini-seminar on 9 July 2019.
The main speaker of the second seminar was Mr. Mikio Ishiwatari, Senior Advisor of JICA/Visiting Professor of Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo. He has been engaged in development assistance projects and research works of disaster risk reduction (DRR). His presentation shared the results of "Research on Demand Estimate of Infrastructure in Asia" conducted by the JICA Research Institute. Investment in DRR is indispensable for enhancing resilience and for achieving sustainable development as the Sendai Framework for DRR stresses. Understanding the current scale, effects, demands is crucial to promoting DRR investment.
The second speaker was Anupam Khajuria, UNCRD Researcher. She made a presentation entitled, "Frontier Technologies in Advancing 3R and Circular Economy". The presentation was on initiative of the promotion of 3R in Asia and the Pacific which is the one of UNCRD's major activities, and on opportunities and challenges of new frontier technologies in advancing 3R and circular economy for sustainable development. The frontier technologies are defining the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) and it takes into account the policy "to leave no one behind" and points towards the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and SDGs.
