Message for the Kumamoto Earthquakes in Japan - 22 Apr 2016
United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) expresses its deepest condolences and sympathies to the people and the Government of Japan for the tragic loss of lives and properties by the series of devastating earthquakes and aftershocks that struck the central Kyushu region of Japan stretching from Kumamoto Prefecture to adjacent Prefecture of Oita.

While the affected people are still struggling to have shelter and access to basic services, such as drinking water supply, UNCRD together with its expertise and members of the UN system stands ready to provide any assistance necessary to the bereaved families and communities at this critical moment for their recovery and rehabilitation. UNCRD, at the same time, recognizes the level of resilience the Japanese people and the Government have been demonstrating during the time of such natural calamities.
